back to band camp

I am sore, sunburnt, tired, and REALLY excited for the rest of the week, the upcoming season, and, after seeing some fierce drum corps last weekend, the rest of my spinning career!
Band Camp fuel: a Bagel as the main course, not pictured, a granola bar, carrots, grapes, red beet egg, strawberries, and a strawberry fruit leather tucked underneath.
1 day down, six to go (and then practice 3x a week:P)

100th post

Well, this is anti-climactic. I had hoped for a little more excitement for the hundredth post, but here it is, an update.
I haven't been doing anything ornate in the way of meals since schol ended. Instead, I got busy searching for a job (still searching, unfortunately), making sure to stay in touch with friends, enjoying a little bit of freedom as I get a little older (my birthday is just around the corner...), and traveling to either side of the state with some of my favorite colorguard people.
Speaking of colorguard people, it's that time again; High School Colorguard season. We've had 12 really great 3 hour practices so far, with a LOT of sore limbs and a few bumps on the head.
Now, I've got one free week to get ready for school and enjoy my last free week of summer with friends, then two weeks of some seriously exhausting band camp, and then high school. It feels like I just walked out of that place....
I think going from one season of colorguard to the other and just keeping up with it has definitely put me in better shape than I would typically begin the school year, even if some of my eating habits have slipped into 'whatever's easiest' (nuclear orange Kraft mac&cheese after practice, anyone?).
So, it's time to get back in the habit. I've already planned one entire week of packed lunches for camp (my plans usually go awry and end up COMPLETELY different, but hopefully this makes it slightly less hectic to begin with!).
See you next week!

Cheddar and lettuce wrap, strawberry fan, grapes. Anybody got better meatless wrap/sandwich ideas that don't involve peanut butter?

86

The choice was either fast food, or fend for myself. Since I had already taste tested quite a few cookies today (for our family reunion this weekend), I decided to fend for myself.

Potato salad, hard boiled egg, carrots, Apple, peach. Not pictured: a banana smoothie for dessert.

So this is my accidental bento dinner.

It started with, "hey mom, the ants are back with friends, and guess what, one of them found his way onto this dinner plate..." and ended with throwing out some food and starting over in an antless environment.

So, the bug man gets a call tomorrow. :(

Saturday Lunch

Leftover hardboiled egg turned into egg salad, lettuce, carrot and celery, strawberry, leftover fried rice, chocolate pudding for dessert.

Oops, not a bento...

Forgive me? I finally got this Boca chick'n party to taste like something. The first two I ate were like school chicken sandwiches - tasteless on a bun.
Why oh why didnt I think of seasoning? I season everything else!
In fact...I like seasoning a little TOO much ;)

Chick'n patty, broccoli, and half a potato.

Not a salad, I promise!

Change of pace today...

We're not going to have our kitchen back until Wednesday night :(

I'm just starting to get used to making lunches without it - but I'll be glad to have an oven again.

Anyway, I'm about to go take my driver's test in half an hour...hopefully tomorrow's lunch will come with good news? Fingers crossed!

74 via Android blogger app

So, instead of using a better camera, I got a better phone :P

Now, here's the test - do 8 megapizels make a difference? My old phone was only 2. (So, I'm thinking yes!)

To see the difference in picture quality, and because I was going into withdrawal, I made a breakfast bento for the first time in a while.
Egg and American Cheese on a mini bagel separated by a granola bar and topped with a strawberry fan.

Anyway, my old phone died a few days ago (internal speaker quit, shut off randomly, got completely unreliable) and so we had to replace it. The camera was an added bonus!

warning: not pretty!

Aw man. A better person would be able to pack with half a kitchen. I, however, can simply manage this:

So, not the usual, but still good!

Ceasar salad with broccoli, strawberries and the last market apple.

In other, more disgusting news, I opened my lunchbox after school today to take out the containers and do the usual cleaning, and there was a BUG in it.

Whaaaat?! I am not a bug person. This is what men are for, isn't it? Anyway, I think I screamed like a four year old and then just ran away.

It was kind of scary, it wasn't like a tiny little one or anything either. It was kind of the shape of a lightning bug/firefly but BIGGER and BLACK. Creepy crawly.

How did it get in there anyway?!?

I'm not a bug person. (in case you couldn't tell)

hot mess!

The reason there haven't been any lunches for the past few days:

No oven, no stove, no dishwasher, no sink, no counters! - just microwave, fridge, and pantry.

Everything from the drawers got stashed away into boxes that are sitting in our living room. I might go through them this weekend to find some things for lunches next week (not sure when the projected finish is).

It's been fun trying to wrangle up dinner :P

Sadly, this lunch did not get eaten. It went to school and came back home exactly the same way.

:(

I left my lunchbox in Chemistry, the class I have right before lunch, and by the time I made it back to the classroom the teacher had left and locked his door behind him :(

So I got salad bar @ school instead, and a friend of mine who has that class right AFTER lunch picked it up for me.

Oh well.... at least this can still be my What's for Lunch Wednesday ;)

64

I had a lunch yesterday, but accidentally deleted the picture :( and because there is no way to get it back, I can safely boast that it was a fantastic lunch, too. ;)

today's is just a little sidecar - main dish was chips with salsa and a banana for snack (we ran out of apples!!! I eat an apple every day in fifth period.)

In other news, I was upgraded from padded sabre to real sabre - unfortunately, it's rained every day since I got it, so I haven't had a chance to do much spinning. As soon as I hit 'Publish Post,' I'm heading outside to do just that.

XOXO

  • grapes

This is my What's for Lunch Wednesday post, since my picture for Tuesday went mysteriously missing (got deleted).

Leftover slice of cheese pizza went as a main dish.

My post for this week's What's for lunch Wednesday. (I know the post says it was written on April the 1st....but it wasn't. I got lazy and wrote over an old post where the picture had mysteriously disappeared...got deleted somehow!)

But seriously. This was the only worthy lunch since the post below.

After getting home Sunday the 3rd from practice, I did all of my schoolwork in advance and packed my things to leave for an eight hour drive on Wednesday the 6th, right after school.

We went from Eastern Pennsylvania to Western Ohio for WGI Colorguard Championships (and then didn't make it to finals by half a point!). I got back Saturday night, and slept till Noon the next day (I'm sure I didn't get more than 5 hours a night at the hotel in Ohio).

It was an amazing trip, but it took a lot out of me, and that's why there have been so few posts. I'm just starting to get back into the swing of things. Expect more soon.

Packing Lunch and Parallel Parking

The only thing they ^^ have in common is that I did both today.

  • Sliced Red Beet Egg in a Pita

  • Strawberry

  • Broccoli

  • Carrots

  • Salad

  • Fruit Leather flower cut-out

  • Tostito's chips with salsa (not pictured)

Today I had my first driver's ed session with one of the gym teachers who runs the program. I get 5 lessons total, and then I can take my driver's test with him (my six months are up April 15th!)

We ended the lesson with parallel parking, something I've never done before, and it was surprising less difficult than I thought it would be. I'm guessing it's harder when you don't have four giant orange cones guiding you.

Hopefully, I'll have my license by the end of April (fingers crossed!)

Stuck in a rut much?

57

I was running late this morning and I almost let myself think, "Forget it, it's not worth taking a picture, it's not even a great looking lunch--" and stopped myself. Because it is worth it!

And I wasn't late in the end anyway (so there!) :)

  • Peanut Butter on a tortilla
  • strawberry
  • red beet egg
  • grapes
  • carrots
  • apple (the rest of the apple was my mid-morning snack)

It's starting to become a pattern that my main dish is a plain, tan color, and all of my sides are colorful - and I don't look forward to the 'main dish' hardly ever! I think colorful foods are just more appetizing.

Colorful main-course suggestions?

It's not You, It's Me.

I had a picture for today. But it was ugly. I knew it was ugly when I took it, but with an optomistic thought I snapped the picture and left for school. I tried using my skinny bento container again, which I never got the hang of using.

The problem is a lot of times I see bento where everything's spilling over the top of the container... how do you then close the container and carry off to work/school/etc??

Is it the container I'm using, or is it me? I can't seem to get everything to fit. I put a red beet egg in the taller section, and still had to squish it just to get the lid closed. And then since the container is held together by straps/bands, it doesn't close well and I feel disappointed to find it coming apart by the time I open my lunch box.

I wanted to get a new container to see if it would help, maybe something a teeny bit bigger until I know what I'm doing, but I think maybe it's just me??

Thursday, March 10, 2011

And...51? :)

The theme was KIND OF breakfast for lunch?
  • tamagoyaki with a little american cheese inside
  • strawberries
  • red and green grapes
  • granola bar (for desert)
  • a piece of toast cut in strips
  • Pasta salad (I could eat this 24/7 for a year and still love it.)

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

Happy 50th?

According to my records, this is the 50th bento posted. Party favors, anyone?

It's probably the hundred-somethingth bento in reality, but not everything gets photographed, some get lost in transit (sometimes I don't want people to see how often I really eat cold pizza for lunch), etc.

Without further ado,

Nothing special :]

  • Pasta salad with sprinkled cheddar
  • carrots
  • strawberries
  • red beet egg
  • salad
  • last of the egg rolls
  • a little tortilla heart
  • grapes.

I eat my salad last instead of first, because I usually set things on top of it and use some of the lettuce as 'decor,' so by the time I got to it today I realized that I had forgotten...salad dressing. And while I can eat lettuce in sandwiches, etc., having it dry in a salad is not my cup of tea.

Luckily, a friend of mine also packed today and she had a WHOLE bottle of ceaser salad dressing with her, and was kind enough to share. (This is the girl whom I've also seen bring a whole bag of chips or box of crackers in her lunchbox rather than use plastic bags or containers.)

So it turned out well!

Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder!

Navel Orange slices, cherry jello (made from a box), baby carrots, salad, pasta salad (also from a box...huh) almonds and a HOMEMADE RED BEET EGG! :)

Man, have I missed those things.

What a washed out picture! This lunch was much brighter in-person.

Taste the Rainbow (2?)

Pasta (seperate container of sauce), baby carrots, strawberries, grapes, broccoli, almonds to put in chocolate pudding dessert

On a side note, my Chemistry teacher read The Lorax today in class in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday/Read Across America day (he planned to do it yesterday, the actual day, but was absent). I wish all of our lessons were that easy.... :)

Omnomnom.

(ran out of creative titles)

Strawberries and grapes, cup of pears, lettuce divider, tortilla strips, fried rice (with peas, carrots, broccol, onions) and half a baked egg roll...someone else ate the other half this morning when I wasn't looking! O.0
